Weather Prompts Judicial Panel to Reschedule Springfield Council Primary for February 22

Out of concern for public safety and a potential shortage of legally required poll workers, elections officials petitioned a panel of judges to cancel or reschedule the Springfield City Council Primary on February 8. The judges ruled to move that primary election to Tuesday, February 22.

The HBA of Greater Springfield’s political action committee, the Coalition for Building a Better Tomorrow, recently elected to financially support Springfield City Council Zone 3 Candidate Jerry Compton. Compton, appointed to council in 2009, will be on the ballot for the February 22 primary. Compton is also recommended by the Springfield Good Government Committee, a coalition of small business and industry leaders which recruits and supports council candidates.

Compton is the only current member of council with experience on the Planning & Zoning Commission. He is an architect and also the campus construction manager for Missouri State University. Compton’s stated priorities as he runs for re-election include: supporting economic development, supporting public safety and strengthening neighborhoods.

Zone 3 encompasses the portion of Springfield to the south of Sunshine St. and west of National Ave. There is also a city wide primary for council seat C on February 22. The top two vote-getters on February 22 will proceed to the general election on April 5. In the April 5 general election, The Springfield Good Government Committee has also recommended two other candidates: Jan Fisk in Zone 2 and Thomas Bieker in General Seat D.

If you live in the City of Springfield, remember to get out and vote on Tuesday, February 22 and Tuesday, April 5!
