Two Scholarship-Eligible Designation Courses Offered Locally in September

The Official Professional Designation Partner of the HBA of Greater Springfield

The Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield  represents the highest professional standard in the residential construction and remodeling industries. Through the HBA and and HBA Professional Designations Presenting Sponsor Herrman Lumber, industry professionals can earn a variety of National Association of Home Builders Professional Designations.

Thanks to generous scholarship support from the HBA Charitable Foundation, and the support of HBA Professional Designations partner Herrman Lumber, the HBA of Greater Springfield has scheduled a full local courseload for completion of the CGB, CGR, CGA, CGP, and CAPS designations. These classes are guaranteed not to be cancelled, and they allow for completion of all coursework for these designations, in Springfield, by the end of 2012. The final two scholarship-eligible courses offered locally for those who seek to earn a professional designation from the NAHB University of Housing will be held September 19 and 20. Description:

Build your housing industry expertise by learning about the residential construction process from the ground up! Those in housing and construction-related fields, like vendors, suppliers, brokers, retailers, builder/remodeler company staff, REALTORs® and others will learn what it takes to build or remodel a home. With that knowledge, you will learn how to build more effective and profitable relationships with the builders and remodelers you work with. As a graduate of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe product types, current trends and stakeholders in the residential construction industry
  • Contrast and elaborate on the sales and marketing functions of the residential construction industry
  • Articulate the criticality and complexity of land acquisition and development
  • Outline types of financial tools available to support building and remodeling projects
  • Assess strategies to strengthen the relationship between suppliers and builders/remodelers
  • Explain the critical path of steps in the residential construction process
  • Describe the importance of post-construction activities: closing, customer care and after-the-sale service

Tom Stephani is president of Stephani Enterprises, LLC and Custom Construction Concepts, Inc. of Crystal Lake, Illinois. Stephani Enterprises develops commercial & residential land and constructs light commercial projects along with custom homes & traditional neighborhood infill projects. Tom has written extensively for industry magazines such as Custom Builder Magazine. Tom is the 2011-12 Illinois State Representative to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), a past Chairman of the National Sales & Marketing Council, and serves on the NAHB International Over-Sight Group. He is also a Life Director of NAHB. On the local front, Stephani was president of McHenry County Home Builders Association in 1999, has chaired many committees, and was named its Builder of the Year in 2000 and 2002. In addition to his building business, Tom is a nationally recognized speaker, trainer, and consultant on issues relating to the residential construction industry. He is also the principal international instructor for the NAHB. Training delegations from Nigeria in Washington, DC, and a trip to Ghana to work with the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA), has given him a better understanding of problems, issues, and opportunities for builders in those countries.
