What does “more cow bell” have to do with saying goodbye to Matt? If you are a Saturday Night Live fan from yesteryear you may remember the hilarious line “needs more cow bell.” This line was delivered in an April 8, 2000 skit showing Blue Oyster Cult making the recording of their 1976 hit “Don’t Fear the Reaper.” Cow bell-jammin’ Will Ferrell played band member Gene Frenkle with A LOT of gusto. In the skit, tension begins to rise in the studio when Christopher Walken, playing music producer Bruce Dickinson, keeps demanding that he “needs more cow bell!”
Seeing that this skit was one of Matt’s favorites, it is only fitting that we send him off with MORE COW BELL! Many times Matt was our Bruce Dickinson – demanding “more cow bell” from the organization. In our case, however, the “cow bell” represented a higher standard for member services and stronger advocacy on your behalf. Matt carried out the HBA leadership’s vision for improvement and it was well received, (unlike the comically annoying real cow bell from SNL!)
