Local economies have suffered from the slowdown in home construction, and home buyers and owners face difficulties getting access to affordable mortgage loans and avoiding foreclosure in today’s distressed environment. What’s worse, policymakers are considering scaling back the mortgage interest deduction, imposing more requirements on borrowers and letting the foreclosure crisis deepen.
