HBA Christmas Party 2019 – Photos & Awards

Thank you to all HBA Members who attended the 2019 HBA Christmas party at Ozarks Food Harvest (PHOTOS BELOW).

Giving something back to the community was our focus this year – and we managed to do that by assembling 342 backpacks, cleaning 1,266 eggs and sorting 21,754 pounds of sweet potatoes. All of this work resulted in 23,446 meals for our community! Just another way HBA members affect the community they live in – great job!

As part of the Christmas Party the Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield installed the 2020 HBA Board of Directors and announced its most prestigious honors of the year. The annual HBA awards announced during the evening’s festivities included HBA Builder Member of the Year, HBA Associate Company of the Year, HBA Associate Individual of the Year and five HBA President’s awards.

The HBA Builder Member of the Year went to Kenny Bussell and Tyler Bussell. Kenny and Tyler, with Bussell Building, Inc., joined the HBA in 2004. Kenny was elected to serve on the HBA Board of Directors in 2007 and Tyler was appointed to serve on the Springfield Good Government committee this year.  You can see Kenny and Tyler every year in at least one Parade homes – quite often they have multiple homes on Parade. Both Kenny and Tyler have made it a priority to attend as many HBA education events and HBA Builder Roundtables each year as possible. They both find great value from these events. In addition to focusing on education, both Kenny and Tyler have been extremely helpful working with the City of Springfield and the most recent code adoption.

Wildman Plumbing was honored as HBA Associate Company of the Year. Steve and his staff are dedicated to the success of the HBA. You will always find multiple Wildman Plumbing employees at almost every HBA event. When asked to help build an interactive plumbing activity for the Kid Pro Zone at the 2019 HBA Remodeling EXPO, Steve and his staff took the plans and ran with it. What was originally designed as a simple pipe wall quickly became more than anyone could have imagined and was a huge hit with kids at the Remodeling EXPO. In addition to building the pipe wall, Steve and his staff worked the Kid Pro Zone all three days. Make sure you check out the Kid Pro Zone at the Home and check out Wildman Plumbing’s work!

Mark Foley (Brookline Doorworks) was honored as the HBA Associate Individual of the Year.  Mark became involved with the HBA as soon as he purchased Brookline Doorworks. Mark has served on multiple committees over the years and currently serves on the HBA Membership Events committee where he has been instrumental in breathing new life to HBA events and helps brainstorm new event ideas. Mark routinely sponsors the fishing tournament, the golf tournament and attends every HBA event he possibly can.

The HBA President’s Award was given to five individuals this year – Ryan Green, Matt Bailey, Rusty MacLachlan, Travis Miller and Justin Skiles. Ryan, Matt, Rusty, Travis and Justin have worked extremely hard with HBA staff and the City of Springfield concerning adopting the 2018 codes. Justin’s focus on rehabbing homes in center city was instrumental in finding a compromise that exempts residential remodels and rehabs from the 2018 energy codes. Travis dedicated multiple hours to reading through ordinances that seemed to change daily, helping keep the process on track. Matt currently serves on the NAHB codes committee and brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. Rusty focused on acting as the HBA’s spokesperson at the Plans & Policies meeting, presenting the HBA’s side and answering tough questions. Ryan worked with the Springfield code adoption, but also kept track of what was going on code-wise in Republic at the same time. Together, the HBA continues to work towards adopting new codes that make the most sense for all involved.

Congratulations to this year’s award winners and inductees!  Your hard work and association dedication is deeply appreciated.
