Extreme Makeover: Home Edition – Joplin Pep Rally TUESDAY

EMHE Build Will Also Help Firefighters Collect Christmas Toys for Kids

JOPLIN, MO– ABC’s Emmy-award winning reality TV show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition will set the stage for the show’s upcoming build in Joplin with a community-wide pep rally Tuesday, October 4 at Calvary Baptist Church (600 E. 50th Street in Joplin), from 5pm to 8pm.

The pep rally will provide an opportunity for thousands in the community to come together and share in the excitement surrounding the program’s upcoming build and shoot in Joplin. The Joplinbuild will be one of the largest in the history of the wildly popular program. Led by Southwest Missourihome builder Sam Clifton, president of Millstone Custom Homes, the October Joplin project will build seven homes in seven days for families who suffered losses in the May tornado that destroyed much of the city. The weeklong Extreme build will begin in Joplin on October 19.

Below, watch a public service announcement by Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host Ty Pennington:

At the rally, participants are encouraged to bring a NEW toy to donate in support the “Firefighters Christmas For Kids” toy drive. Firefighters will be in attendance to begin collecting toys for their annual campaign. The widespread attention drawn by the Joplin Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project provides a unique opportunity to expand support for this worthwhile project. The EMHE Joplin build will provide a central collection point for toys people donate to the cause, so they can be distributed to area children’s charities and directly to children through the Firefighters Christmas For Kidsproject.

Sam Clifton with Family & Friends following 2009 EMHE Build

“It is such an honor to be able to use this wonderful project as a way to support the Firefighters’ toy drive,”Clifton said.

“I’m so grateful to Pastor Brad Graves and Calvary Baptist Church, for generously hosting the rally,” Clifton continued. “We’re going to have a great time, build some amazing homes for families displaced by the tornado, and, with help from our Firefighter friends, make a memorable Christmas for a lot of kids along the way.”

As a second-generation builder, Sam Clifton has dedicated most of his life to learning his trade. Starting when he was a young boy, Sam worked for his father’s construction company. From pouring cement foundations to installing drywall, Sam learned every aspect of the building process. To further pursue his passion for building, Sam also earned a Construction Management degree from Missouri State University. While completing his formal education, Sam continued to learn on the job, building houses with his father. Today, Sam and his talented wife Michelle team up to provide their clients with outstanding design-build services. It’s their Millstone mission to bring new homes to life for couples and families. Raising their own three children in the Ozarks, Sam and Michelle are true neighbors to many of their clients. They forge a bond and friendship with their clients that lives on long after the new home is complete.
