Speak Up About How Proposed Strategic Plan for City of Springfield Will Affect Housing and Development
For the past year, more than 230 citizen volunteers have been working to formulate the community’s next 20-year strategic plan. HBA of Greater Springfield staff and members have served on multiple committees involved in this process. The full plan is now being rolled out in draft form. You can view the plan sections at the Strategic Planning website (http://www.springfieldmo.gov/strategicplan/index.html) to read about the process and discover what kind of vision your fellow citizens have for the Springfield area in the year 2030. A public feedback forum is planned for 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, April 30 at Mediacom Ice Park.
It is important that HBA members engage, read sections of the plan which pertain to their industry, and attend the forum to provide meaningful and direct feedback. This agenda-setting document eventually will be finalized and adopted by City Council.
“While the HBA has been engaged in this process on behalf of the industry, there are certainly many diverging points of view represented in this planning process – not all of which are entirely compatible with the objectives or priorities of the residential construction industry,” HBA of Greater Springfield CEO Matt Morrow said. “It is important now for individual members and companies to provide direct feedback regarding how this plan could impact residential construction, population and economic growth, land use management, planned density, costs of building and affordability of homeownership.”
