Back by popular demand…. the HBACF presents the Belt Sander Races of 2014! Races are scheduled for 5:30 on September 30 at Midwest Block & Brick (1650 E. Atlantic Street).
If you have never seen or participated in a Belt Sander Race, don’t be so quick to judge. Once you have seen how fast they move down the track and the lengths some will go to modify or decorate their belt sander, you will be hooked.
For those of you that have let the dust accumulate on your Belt Sander, it is time to pull it off the shelf and do some cleaning and maintenance work on it. And for those of you that are Belt Sander Pros and are ready to go, get your TEAM signed up now!
Are you creative and good with mechanics? If you answered yes, then you should choose the modified class route. The modified class is an opportunity for anyone that has ever wondered “Why does that belt sander go faster than mine? I bet I know how to make one run faster than anybody else’s!!” Simply put, the modified class is for any belt sander that has been built from scratch or has had modifications made to the way it operates.
If you are not mechanically inclined, the stock class is probably for you. This makes things nice and easy, but we do recommend taking your belt sander out of the box before race night to make sure it does in fact burn sand! We also would like you to be a little creative and decorate your belt sander. Add your company logo (TEAM Logo) or just attach a GiJoe to make it more interesting.
Sign up your 4-person team NOW, so you are not left in the saw dust! A 4-person team consists of a single belt sander driver and a three person pit crew. There will be prizes for the “Best Dressed” belt sander as well as best in Stock and Modified races. Decorating your belt sander does not make it a modified belt sander, it just makes it look good, and it’s all about the looks, right!?
If you just don’t have the mechanical bug in you to race, still plan on coming out to cheer for your favorite belt sander and team! You will get to enjoy dinner and get to help choose the “best dressed” belt sander. Entrance fee for your 4 person team is $100 for members, $125 for non-members, and $50 for students. Spectators and Cheerleaders are $15 per person and this includes a goooood meal.
