HBA Christmas Party 2016 – Volunteering at Ozarks Food Harvest

Thank you to all HBA Members who attended the 2016 HBA Christmas party at Ozarks Food Harvest. A wonderful time was had by all, and the amount of excitement and hard work that was put into our volunteer project was bountiful!

Giving something back to the community was our focus this year – and we managed to do that assembling 685 Christmas bags for the Bradleyville school district and repackaging 6,090 eggs.  There was so much enthusiasm and hard work during our volunteering time – in fact, the volunteer hours are equivalent to 6,090 meals in our area – great job!

As part of the Christmas Party the Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield installed the 2017 HBA Board of Directors and announced its most prestigious honors of the year. The annual HBA awards announced during the evening’s festivities included HBA Member of the Year, HBA Associate Company of the Year and HBA Associate Individual of the Year.

Awards

The HBA Builder Member of the Year went to Randy Friga’s Family. Randy was an extremely talented builder/remodeler who was part of the HBA Charitable Foundation, chaired the HBA Remodelers Council, participated in the HBA Home Show and HBA Home Remodeling Show and sponsored various events throughout the year. In addition to his involvement on behalf of the HBA, Randy was extremely involved in his church and shared his skills in Haiti, focusing on housing and improving the school system. Randy’s son, Eric with Friga Construction, was in attendance to accept the award on his family’s behalf. Randy was an important part of the HBA family and will be missed.

Mouery’s Carpet Center, LLC  was honored as HBA Associate Company of the Year. Elisabeth Mouery serves on the HBA Charitable Foundation, and Elisabeth and Rick attend the majority of the HBA Membership Networking events. In fact, Rick has proven to be quite talented in his first time playing Corn Hole and racing Belt Sanders!  Over the past year, Mouery’s Carpet Center has participated in the HBA Home Show, the HBA Home Remodeling Show, the Corn Madness event and the Belt Sander Races.  The company advertised in the HBA Event Magazine and helped sponsor the HBA Charitable Foundation’s 5K.

Jill Vincel of Southern Supply was honored as the HBA Associate Individual of the Year.   Over the past year, Jill served on the HBA Board of Directors, the budget committee, the builder participation committee and the HBA Remodelers Council. She participates in the trade shows as a vendor and volunteers her time to assist with the set-up of the show – we couldn’t do it without her! Through Jill’s leadership, Southern Supply has been the event sponsor and/or the bag sponsor for the HBA trade shows, sponsored golf events, sporting clays tournament, and participated in virtually every event the HBA has to offer.

The HBA Board of Directors Award was awarded to one individual this year:

  • Mike Benna:  Mike of Meek’s serves on the HBA of Missouri Board of Directors, serves on the HBA Board of Directors and serves on the CBBT Board of Directors.  He serves on the Springfield Good Government committee and serves as the leader on the Smoke Alarm Give-Away project.  Mike attends the majority of monthly membership events, attends HBA Education events and participated in HBA Corn Madness and won the tournament. He also received this award in 2013 and 2015.

In addition to the awards handed out, two 2016 Hall of Fame Inductees were honored at the HBA Christmas Party.  A special plaque was given to Tom Maher and Ron Stenger Companies to recognize their years of involvement, contributions and association commitment.

Honors

Tom Maher has worked for Meek’s – The Builder’s Choice for more than 34 years, and has managed the Meek’s Nixa location for 16 years. Tom served on the HBA Board of Directors 2003-2008 and has served on the Nixa City Council 1994-2004, 2010-2014 and 2016. Tom has been instrumental in helping the HBA develop relationships with Christian County, Ozark and Nixa building departments.

Ron Stenger Companies has been a member of the HBA since 1991. We have had the pleasure of working with several great individuals associated with Ron Stenger Companies. Ed Alden served on the HBA Board of Directors 1994-2004 and 2009-2014. He served as President 2001-2002 and was named the HBA Builder Member of the Year in 2000. Stu Stenger has been heavily involved on the political side and was named HBA Builder Member of the Year in 2005. Stephanie Montgomery currently represents the HBA on the Springfield Good Government board and is currently the President of that board. Ron Stenger Companies is an active participant in HBA activities and continues to develop fantastic subdivisions in the greater Springfield area.

Congratulations to this year’s award winners and inductees!  Your hard work and association dedication is deeply appreciated.
