HBA Parade of Homes Set for June 20-22, 27-29

One in Four Area Residents Plan to Buy Their Next Home in Next Five Years… Parade Offers Great Opportunity for Buyers!

SPRINGFIELD, MO – The Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield’s annual Parade of Homes will begin Friday, June 20 and will feature 27 homes built by 20 of the area’s finest builders in the Springfield area including Nixa, Ozark, Strafford and Republic. There are four homes in the Branson area and two in Seymour. The price range is from under $150,000 to $950,000.

“While some housing markets are still struggling in the coastal areas, our area still has some strong indicators – we actually have several more entries in the Parade this year than last year,” said Matt Morrow, HBA Executive Officer. “At the end of May, the National Association of Home Builders released national numbers that indicated an increase in new home sales numbers. Our local housing research recently revealed that more than 25% of the people in our area are looking to buy their next home within five years. The Parade will showcase some unparalleled values in the marketplace. There are significant opportunities to purchase quality-built homes in this region right now.”
The St. Jude Dream Home®, built by HBA builder John Marion, is on the Parade this year. The project, a partnership between the HBA Charitable Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, is open for viewing every weekend in June and during the Parade through June 28. One lucky person who purchases a $100 ticket will win the home. The winner will be announced Sunday, June 29, 2008. To purchase a ticket call 1-800-870-2980 or visit www.stjudedreamhome.org.

SYSTEMS BUILT HOMES
Gail Savage brings a wealth of residential building experience to the HBA—she is also our first “Systems-Built” builder. Systems-built housing refers to methods of construction that take advantage of modern machinery, computer and factory technology to create a code-compliant home. Systems-built homes use prefabricated materials, built in a climate-controlled environment and designed to work as a precise system, to complete the home.

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) recognizes this method of building is gaining in popularity and represents the producers, builders, and vendors of the concrete, log, modular, and panelized home industries through its Building Systems Councils. While these homes have manufactured components, they are built on a foundation, framed, and must meet the highest level of code compliance so they can be built in any jurisdiction.

** Why Is Systems Built Housing Gaining In Popularity? Builders are finding that systems can serve multiple markets – from first-time-buyer to luxury, custom homes – and the product is inherently “green,” an important draw for consumers. Most building systems offer a reduced construction time, allowing for quicker completion and move-in. Building systems also offer more cost control during the construction process and a high degree of energy efficiency. According to the Wood Truss Council of America, sales of factory-made housing components have more than doubled since 1992, now topping $12 billion annually. A similar trend has occurred in Japan where building systems grew by as much as 52% between 1990 and 2000 in the face of an aging population and job-site labor shortages. Data show that 25%-30% of all new housing in the United States now uses systems-built technology. Building housing components in a controlled manufacturing plant reduces waste, construction time and exposure to the weather. The final product can also be stronger than traditionally built housing, enabling it to stand up to extreme weather. Source: www.nahb.org; Building Systems Councils.

GREEN IS BEAUTIFUL…AND AFFORDABLE
Builder Brian Willaby is dedicated to delivering a home which is attractive and affordable – not only to purchase but to live in. By using the most cost-effective, affordable green products, Richland Homes’ goal is to provide homeowners the most dream home for their budgets and equip them with sustainable energy efficiency. Willaby frequently uses:

-Xcell Cellulose Insulation to help decrease utility bills, increase sound control and fire rating;
-90% furnaces to increase efficiency by using a greater percentage of natural gas;
-Ventless gas fireplaces which are 99.9% efficient, preventing heat loss by using no outside air.

BRINGING BACK CLASSIC STYLES
Design trends evolve over the years but sometimes the classic styles make a resurgence. One of the themes the HBA heard in its housing market research was that homeowners appreciate the character and charm of an older home – and it’s something they’d like to see in a new home blended with modern amenities. Several builders on the parade have infused their newly constructed homes with elements of the traditional Arts & Crafts style.
