Debra Speake saw that the HBA staff needed help at their major events and quickly stepped in to offer her assistance. Debra runs one of the loading docks at the Home Show and helped with all aspects of the Remodeling EXPO. She also joined the HBA Charitable Foundation Board this year. In addition to her involvement with the HBA, she is the immediate past-president of the National Association of Women in Construction and continues to be a very active member of that organization as well.

HBA President’s Awards:

HBA of Greater Springfield President Matt Bailey made special recognition of two key HBA members and partners who made extraordinary efforts for the betterment of the industry and/or the association. This year’s President’s Award Recipients included:

Mike Benna (Meek’s Design Center)
When the chair of the Government Affairs committee stepped down, Mike Benna quickly volunteered to help in any way he could and became chair of the committee. As chair, Benna was instrumental in developing the Coalition Advocacy Investor Program and worked to help implement this program.

Sarah Watson (Hometown Disposal, Inc.)
When asked to serve as the chair of the Membership committee, Sarah quickly agreed and got right to work. Through her leadership, this committee meets quarterly with one goal – search out new HBA members. The Membership committee has taken their job seriously, as seen by the five new members accepted this month.

Golden Lightbulb Award

This is a brand-new award suggested by Mike Benna. Mike went to President Matt Bailey and said “HBA members that have new and exciting ideas should be recognized!” Matt Bailey quickly agreed and this award was created. We are excited to announce that the very first winner of this brand-new award is the “Coalition Advocacy Investor Program“. This program was created by:

The Coalition Advocacy Investor Program was successful in raising more than $21,000 for the Coalition for Building a Better Tomorrow – more than three times what was raised in 2011!
