Board Member Biographies

The Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield is governed by a volunteer board of directors. Collectively, this board of directors sets goals and policy for the organization. Each board member holds a fiduciary duty to make decisions based on what is in the best interest of the Association. Elections are held annually in which the full membership of the HBA of Greater Springfield has the opportunity to vote for the leadership best suited to serve on the board of directors.

The HBA’s Executive Board consists of the officers and the immediate past president of the board of directors. Officers of the board include: President, Vice President, VP of Finance/Treasurer, VP of Regulatory Advocacy/Secretary and the VP of Political & Legislative Advocacy. The officers of the board are elected annually by vote of the general membership.

Responsibilities of the board and of the board officers (along with other rules of governance of the association) are outlined in the Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield Bylaws.

Jason Bekebrede (CGB, CGP)

Jason has been building since 2004 and has quickly established himself as a leader and quality custom home builder and remodeler. He is committed to providing the customer with outstanding customer service and delivering a project of the highest quality through meticulous planning and attention to detail. Jason is active in the association, currently serving as chairman of the Green Building Committee and holds the designations of Certified Green Professional, ENERGYSTAR partner, and Certified Graduate Builder.

Travis Miller (CGP)

VP of Regulatory Advocacy/Secretary | Builder Member

Travis Miller is a 2nd generation builder that understands the importance of communication, cooperation, education, and trust necessary to satisfy a customer’s needs while maintaining a realistic cost analysis for each project. His hands-on approach ensures all projects are managed timely and efficiently with the utmost attention to detail throughout. Travis currently holds the Certified Green Professional designation offered through NAHB. This designation allows Travis to remain up-to-date on green building trends.

Steve Hamm

VP of Finance/Treasurer | Associate Member

Steve has more than 30 years banking experience in Credit Analysis, Branch Management, Consumer, Residential and Commercial Lending.  He graduated from MSU and all his banking experience has been in the Springfield area.  He is the Immediate Past President of the Springfield South Kiwanis Club and the current Vice President of Finance/Treasurer for the Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield, as well as a Board Member of the Missouri HBA.

Sam Clifton (CGP)

Past President | Builder Member

Sam Clifton owns and operates Millstone Custom Homes, and has a reputation for building fine custom homes of the highest quality. In 2009, Sam was selected to be featured as the builder of ABC’s Extreme Makeover – Home Edition, and again in 2011 for their largest build to date; seven homes in just seven days with 10,000+ volunteers. He is the 2010 HBA Builder Member of the Year. He has also received multiple awards from 417 Magazine; Home of the year and featured Home. In 2010, Sam was elected Mayor of Nixa, MO an office he held through the Spring of 2014.

Matt Bailey (CGB, CGP)

Matt is a second generation builder specializing in both residential remodeling and commercial construction. An active member of the association Matt is past chair of the Builders Council and the HBA Government Affairs Committee. He founded and is past chair of the HBA Charitable Foundation, and he recently completed a term as a member of the board of directors of the Habitat for Humanity of Springfield.

Kevin Clingan

Kevin is a second generation builder, and has been building homes since 1983. Kevin holds a degree in Business Administration from Drury University. He is a full-time builder and believes that a quality home can only be built by personally being on the construction site to ensure that all points of the building process measure up to his high standards. Effective communication skills with customers, attention to detail and quality workmanship are trademarks of Kevin’s homes. Kevin was named Builder Member of the Year in 2002 and 2008 and received the Presidential Award in 2006.

Gene Douglas

Gene Douglas

Gene Douglas, owner of Gene Douglas Construction LLC, opened his contracting business in 1983, providing quality concrete and stone work in California. Gene quickly became known for his original designs, his luxurious outdoor kitchens, arbors and patio structures. He has been greatly appreciated by his clients for his commitment to excellence ever since.

In 1994, when he moved his family and business to the Ozarks, Gene expanded his family business into restoration services, full home remodels, custom new home design and construction, and commercial contracting. Gene has continued his commitment to excellence and client satisfaction, working closely with major builders and homeowners in the Springfield and surrounding areas, as well as developing his own mini subdivisions.

Today, Gene’s reputation for diligence, integrity, workmanship and design are still the main factors in the confidence of homeowners to contract Gene to remodel or build their homes.

Rusty MacLachlan (CAASH)

Rusty is a 7th generation builder who has more than 25 years of building experience. He was recently featured on KOLR’s “Building the Ozarks” program and was the HBA Builder Member of the Year in 2004. He serves as a member of the board of directors of the Home Builders Association of Missouri. He is past president of the HBA of Greater Springfield and of the HBA of Missouri.

Adrian Rhoads (CGP)

Adrian Rhoads, owner of Rhoads Design & Construction, received his degree from the Hammons School of Architecture at Drury University. He feels this degree has given him a strong basis of knowledge in the theory of design and structures, allowing him to help homeowners develop their vision for their project that compliments the existing style and period of the home.

Adrian has high expectations for his company and believes staying current in the market is important. In doing so, Rhoads Design & Construction is EPA Lead Certified and is a Certified Green Professional. Adrian has been an active HBA Board member since 2011.

Mike Benna works for Meeks Building Centers and he works out of the Meek’s Design Center as a window specialist. Mike lives in Ozark with his wife Connie of 34 years and he has 3 children and 3 grandchildren. Mike has lived in Ozark for 26 years and has served three terms as an Aldermen for the city of Ozark.

Glenn Green

Glenn P. Green possesses 20 years of legal experience, and his practice encompasses transactions, litigation, and appeals in several areas of law.  Glenn assists individuals and businesses in general business matters, including formation, transactions, mergers and sales, tax-free exchanges, and litigation.  He assists brokers, developers, landlords, builders, and contractors in real estate matters, including contracts, planning, zoning, and litigation involving both residential and commercial properties.  Glenn possesses extensive experience representing a variety of creditors in bankruptcy proceedings, and has served as counsel for unsecured creditor committees.  He also assists clients with estate planning and administration, trust and estate litigation, and providing counsel to trustees, executors, personal representatives, and guardians.

Debi Murray

Debi has been a member of Patrick’s team since Murney Associates opened its doors 17 years ago. Both dedicated and determined to provide top notch service, Debi is passionate about the home buying process. Her compassionate approach gives buyers and sellers a comfortable experience that is always handled with care and concern. In addition to serving on the HBA Board of Directors, Debi has served on the HBA Charitable Foundation Board, the Ozark Empire Fair Board and the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks Board. Angela D. Smith is founder, owner and President of ADsmith Marketing & Advertising. As ‘overseer’ and business catalyst, she loves setting her sites on big-picture strategies and vision casting. Angela is an energetic leader with fresh and innovative ideas. She is truly dedicated to her clients and employees. Angela was  featured in 417 Magazine as one of Springfield’s Game Changers.

As a Springfield native, Angela supports local businesses and local, non-profit organizations. Angela has served on the board of the Ozark Empire Fair Foundation and is a current board member for the Ozark Branch of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Springfield Executive Breakfast Club, and the Foundation for Missouri Women. She is also an active member of Southeast Rotary and the American Advertising Federation.

Shelley Wehner
